Metis is so very French. Metis means mixed and that is exactly what these sheets are, a mixture of cotton and linen. French Metis is usuall at least 65% linen and 35% cotton. It came onto the French market in the early 1900s as a less expensive alternative to pure linen. It was introduced as an easy wash and iron material that was much less heavy than pure linen, quickly becoming popular as a wedding gift or part of a dowry.
